Projects 

The AEC has a pro-active policy towards initiating and realising European projects in the field of professional music training. Usually, these projects are supported by programmes of the European Union. In some projects the AEC acts as the coordinator and contractor, while in others the AEC participates as a partner organisation with a specific role. 

Current projects:

• The ERASMUS Network for Music ‘Polifonia’, supported by the European Commission, has successfully finished its first cycle (2004-2007) and started its second cycle (2007-2010). The new cycle, coordinated jointly with Royal College of Music in Stockholm aims to study:
  • the impact of the Bologna Declaration Process on professional music training in Europe,
  • continuing professional development for conservatoire management and the further investigation of instrumental/vocal teacher training, and
• The 'Widening Participation on the Road to Membership' project (2009-2011), supported by SIDA, aims to;
  • Tune in academies in the Western Balkans with European educational and administrative standards at the higher education level;
  • Widen participation in higher music education by better and easier access for children and youth to early stage and higher music education.
• PRACTICS is a 3-year project (2008-2011) coordinated by the Finnish Theatre Information Centre. The project will develop and pilot so-called “EU Cultural Mobility Contact Points” (CMCPs) to offer relevant information about EU cross-border mobility in the cultural sector.

Realised projects:

• The 'Do-Re-Mi-Fa-SOCRATES' project (2005) aimed at the development of an informational website for students, teachers and the general public on music activities in the SOCRATES programme.
• The 'VARIAZIONI' project (2006-2009), supported by the eCONTENT Programme and coordinated by the Fundacion Albéniz, setup a content enrichment web portal where European musical institutions and user communities could integrate, enrich and reuse existing musical contents and demonstrated its enrichment (through the development of courses, teaching material, articles, thematic webs, etc.).
• 'Musical celebration of 20 years ERASMUS and the Lifelong Learning Programme Launch' (2006-2007), supported by the ERASMUS Programme, proposed several dissemination and exploitation activities with the aim to increase the participation of higher music education in European programmes.
• The 'Mundus Musicalis' project (2005-2007), supported by the ERASMUS MUNDUS Programme, studied international comparability of systems and qualifications in the field of music training with partner institutions in the Far East, Australia, Latin America, the US and Canada. The project also developed an informational website for non-European students interested in studying music in Europe. 
• ‘Accreditation in European Professional Music Training’ (2005-2007), supported by the ERASMUS Programme, studied the European dimension of external quality assurance and accreditation in the field of music.
• The 'Integra' project (2005-2008), supported by the CULTURE 2000 Programme and coordinated by the Birmingham Conservatoire, promoted cooperation and mobility in the field of electro-acoustic composition and creation.
• The 'HARMOS' project (2004-2006), supported by the eCONTENT Programme and coordinated by the Fundacion Albéniz, aimed at the development of on-line educational materials based on video footage of masterclasses and music lessons in various European conservatoires.
• 'The Effects of the Bologna Declaration professional music training in Europe' (2001-2004), supported by the ERASMUS Thematic Network 'Innovation in Higher Arts Innovation'. 
• The 'Music Study, Mobility and Accountability' project (2002-2004), supported by the EU/USA programme, studied issues in relation to transatlantic mobility and cooperation in professional music training, and quality assurance and accreditation in the field of music. 
• The 'European Forum for Music Education and Training – EFMET' project (2004), supported by the CULTURE 2000 Programme and coordinated by the European Music Council, studied the interaction between formal and non-formal types of music education and issues in relation to music teacher training in Europe. 
• The 'MusicWeb' project, supported by the CONNECT and eLEARNING programmes and coordinated by the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (1999-2004), developed a website with on-line materials for music education. 
• The 'Music Education in a multicultural European Society' project (1999-2001), supported by the CONNECT Initiative, studied issues in relation to cultural society in music education. 
• The 'Promuse' project, supported by the LEONARDO Programme (1999-2001), studied continuing education in music and professional integration of musicians.
• 'Higher Music Education in modern European Society' (1996-2000), supported by the ERASMUS Thematic Network 'Higher Arts Education in Europe'.
